They say mountain folks are gruff and unsociable. But that's not entirely true!
We may be reserved and sparing with words, but we have big hearts.

Have you ever seen a farmer right after milking his cows? No? Try it! You'll see he'll offer you a cup of fresh, warm milk, even if you're a stranger.

Have you ever witnessed the preparations for a village festival? Early in the morning, men and women start cooking, lighting fires, and setting up tables and benches for the evening. No?

Give it a try! And if you're thirsty, they'll pour you a glass of wine-because there's always wine to share, even if they don't know you.

Take a walk near the meadows while the hay is being turned or the grass cut. Look closely at the people. You'll see hard work and sweat etched on their faces, but also a smile. And they'll smile at you and greet you, even if they've never met you before.
